Our History
Our Picturesque Historic Property
Trout Lake is a 100-acre lake built in the early 1900s as part of the thriving ice harvesting industry in the Poconos.
The painting above by local artist John James depicts the workers carving large blocks of ice from the frozen lake to be stored in massive five-story ice houses. The stone foundations of these enormous buildings are still standing, and one even forms the base of our Stone Overlook Pergola. The stored ice remained frozen throughout the year, as it was shipped via railcar to New York and Philadelphia.
