Our History

Our Picturesque Historic Property

Trout Lake is a 100-acre lake built in the early 1900s as part of the thriving ice harvesting industry in the Poconos.

The painting above by local artist John James depicts the workers carving large blocks of ice from the frozen lake to be stored in massive five-story ice houses. The stone foundations of these enormous buildings are still standing, and one even forms the base of our Stone Overlook Pergola. The stored ice remained frozen throughout the year, as it was shipped via railcar to New York and Philadelphia.

A Touch Of The Past

Whether it be the impressive stone foundations of the five-story ice houses, the original path of the railroad that connected us to New York and Philadelphia, or the stunning natural beauty of the Pocono woodlands, we are surrounded by reminders from the past that we truly treasure. We take great pride and effort in our goal to preserve these historical features for not only our guests, but also future generations.
